HAMMERWHORE
(Usa) - Live From The Riot - MC
Review from Hellpike (Ger) #15:
Hammerwhore
is a three piece band from the USA. Their style is a pure and traditional
thrash metal. As the title of that tape is narrating, you will get
a live-tape here. Featured are 10 tracks (incl. one intro called "Slave
to Hell"). Also to hear is a cover-version of Cyclone (In the
Grip of Evil) and probably not many guys can remember that band. Well,
the songs reminds me a lot to the very early tapes of the German masters
VIOLENT FORCE, thanks to the voice and the raging style of their music.
People into old Violent Force tapes (live and demos) can risk an ear
on that release. I really do not understand the "intro"(??)
for the song "Long Live Metal" as it is the same riff like
on Conspiracy, Pisen pro Sathanas and/or War. I guess you all do know
what I am talking about. I just would like to listen to some of their
studio recordings, if there is some existing.
Review from Metalwhore.com:
Hell yeeeeeeeaaaaaaaa!!! Dust off that patch covered denim
vest, motherfuckers! Get in the pit!!! Unholy hammerwhored hell…this
little jewel is a live recording of the new godz of thrash from back
in October of 2003. It was taped at The Riot in the boys hometown
of Alice, TX. "Live From The Riot" will take you back to
the old-school tape trading days. It's a lot like an "official"
bootleg, and as bootlegs go I'd give the sound quality about a B+.
The mix is kind of low until about midway through "Devotion To
Violence" where everything seems to get a little louder. There's
a minimum amount of crowd noise. So all in all this is pretty damn
fine live recording. I've witnessed the carnage that is HammerWhore
myself and this tape does a good job of capturing that excitement.
I fucking love every time I hear guitarist/vocalist Joe Gonzales tell
the crowd, "Now we're gonna do a fast one!". Heh heh. Joe's
a killer guitarist and gives a great vocal delivery. Excellent bass
work by Andy Gonzales and superb drumming by Eric Pena as well. I
would say this is a "fan only" release…but it's not. It's
a kick in the ass for metal as a whole. This is everything great thrash
should be. They even include a cover of Belgian cult legends Cyclone's
"In The Grip Of Evil". This tape is strictly limited to
250 copies. I've got number 121, so that tells you they're going fast.
Your uncle Jeff doesn't want to hear you whine we these boys break
big and you say, "damn, I shoulda bought that". Get one
now or get raped on ebay later. Your call. Look for a full-legth CD
this year. I'm hittin a pit…
Review from Thrash Attack (Ger) #1:
Ok this is a live tape by these young american thrashers.
Recently they have released their first full-length through Witches
Brew Records. Well this tape is the first stuff I heard from this
band and as usual a live tape might not be the perfect method to get
to know a band's music. And as the sound, especially the vocal sound,
is quite poor, so....But I heard some mp3 from their album and so
the CD seems to be cool. I simply can't warm to this one, I'd suggest
you to get the album and if you like it, test the live tape.
